Ohio Commission to Discuss SPIRE Sports Betting Applications This Week

Home » Ohio Commission to Discuss SPIRE Sports Betting Applications This Week

Less than two months before Ohio sports betting goes live, Ohio Casino Control Commission is down to a few Retail and online applicants. One of these was the popular multi-sport training and competition center – SPIRE Institute. SPIRE’s application to host a retail and online sportsbook will be reviewed by the OCCC this Wednesday.

If SPIRE is approved for a retail sports betting license, its sportsbook will be located off-campus. This is to ensure that strict security guidelines are in place to prevent anyone under 21 from being able to gamble.

Jonathan Ehrenfeld, the institute’s managing partner, said that the Ohio sportsbook would have several safety measures in place. This is in line with the state’s regulations for retail sports betting, which would prohibit betting on premises where minors are present.

Other Applications To Be Reviewed

The Commission will also discuss the applications of other potential operators, including Betr, Fanatics, Parx Interactive, and Gamewise. To be approved, each applicant must go through a rigorous background check conducted by the OCCC.

The process includes an evaluation of their financial stability, criminal history, and business experience. The Commission will also consider whether the applicant has the appropriate infrastructure in place to support a sports betting operation.

All four applicants are seeking approval to operate online sports betting applications. Fanatics also applies to retail operations where it partnered with Columbus Blue Jackets and the Cleveland Guardians.

For Sports betting kiosks suppliers, Elys Gameboard Technologies and Gold Rush Amusements will also be in the discussion. This type of license will allow Ohio-qualified local businesses like Bars, Restaurants, and even bowling alleys and golf courses to host sports betting kiosks
